Getrag Gearbox



The BMW E30 M3, Getrag 265 gearkit is a complete dog engaged straight-cut gearkit. Designed according “Prodrive” specification, to fit the OEM Getrag 265/5 gearbox after minor modifications. This gearkit can handle up to 400 Nm of torque, and is HTP (Historical Technical Passport) proved. Getrag 280 & 265 History and Design The 280 Getrag was used in all first generation M5/M6 & M635 (Euro) models that used the S38/B35&B36 and S88 (Euro) engines. The Getrag 280 can best be described as a hybrid of a Getrag 260 and 265 transmission. The front and back transmission case sections come from a later 260. Available gearboxes on E21’s were the Getrag manual units and ZF automatics. Standard equipment on most models was a 4 speed manual. Overdrive 5 speed was optional and became standard equipment on some top of the range models in later years (1981-1982).

Our transmission department caters for a range of Getrag gearboxes, Triumph Dolomite and Classic Mini. We also build a number of diffs and axles, mainly for BMW Classics, Triumph Dolomites and the Jaguar XJS.

Classic Mini 5

The Classic Mini 5 speed project has become a major job for ourselves; approached by the designer some years ago, we have worked with him to develop, resolve manufacturing issues and progress the 5 speed gearbox.

We build a number of differentials for our Competition BMWs – be it the long nose unit for the 1800 Nue Klasse, or the short nose for the 2002, the ‘side loader’ for the CSL and finally the Jaguar and Dolomite.

Getrag gearbox parts

We have had a range of crownwheel and pinion pairs made in Germany to cover the short and long nose BMW diffs and are now making a limited slip diff.
